About Us
In 1989 Michael Fox founded IELP to help other electricians prepare for their Master Electrician's examination. Mike had studied for years preparing for his test only to find out there were portions of the National Electrical Code that he didn't understand and couldn't find anyone to help him. After searching through trade publications he found Mike Holt Enterprises from Coral Springs, Florida. At that time Mr. Holt offered audio license training programs and work books. Mike studied the Holt program for six months and passed his Master Electrician test on his first try. At that time Mike asked Mr. Holt if he could use his program to conduct classes in the Indianapolis area. Mike Holt was very helpful in assisting Mike to begin classes using his text. The first class was a private class for a local contractor. Classes are currently held at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis.
Mike Fox
Mike Fox has been an electrician since 1980. Before taking his electrical training he had attended Indiana Vocational Technical College. Mike received an Associate Degree in heating and air conditioning technology in 1977. In 1981 he passed Marion County's Block and Associates test for his heating and cooling license. Mike still keeps that license active. Mike has attended IBEW Electrical theory training for apprentices through AMTRAK, Purdue University's two year Practical Industrial Electronics program at IUPUI, The Electrical League's Power Distribution Class, and many National Electrical Code seminars. Mike feels the best class he ever took was Mike Holt Enterprises' Master Electrician program. This program enabled him to pass his Master Electrician exam the first time with an 86%. At that time (1986) there was a very high failure rate for the City of Indianapolis Block and Associates exam (now Experior) and a score above 80% was rare.
Mike felt this program and his past electrical training gave him a strong enough foundation to teach other electricians. Many students are glad he did. Mike has taught hundreds of electricians in the 15 years he has held classes. Many of his students have been successful and word of mouth brings new students each year. Mike has been a railroad electrician, hospital electrician, service electrician for a large electrical contractor and owned his own electrical business for four years. Currently, Mike is the Electrical Foreman for the Indianapolis Public Schools system. Mike has held this position since 1990 and supervises all electrical construction, maintenance and design for the system. The Indianapolis Public Schools system has close to 90 buildings ranging in age from early 1900's to the present.
